The Lumenar™ Airfoil design was specifically engineered to reduce the aerodynamic drag of large vehicles. This latest aero technology is comprised of specially tuned vertical air foil designs mounted to the front corners of the vehicle. This innovative design can be a key component to optimizing the efficiency & total cost of ownership of your vehicle or fleet & do so with striking style!
State-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software was used to study the flow of air around the vehicle & results were later verified with real-world testing on our motorcoach. The patent-pending air foil profiles were developed to strategically reshape the air flow resulting in a lower drag coefficient. Consequently, the large drag forces that oppose your vehicle are reduced by up to 10% which results in your motor doing less work. And if it’s doing less work, it’s using less fuel or battery, as well as reducing wear on your drivetrain & tires. And did we mention the stunning appearance?
The graphic below compares the velocity flow profiles (top view) around a coach with no aerodynamic treatment as a baseline (upper) & a coach with Lumenar™ designs (lower). Note how the Lumenar™ design works to narrow the field of air disturbed by the vehicle represented by the yellow band enveloping the vehicle (13% narrower).
Since the Lumenar™ Airfoils are mounted on the front corners of the vehicle where the head lights & turn signals reside, the lighting functions are integrated into the air foil designs. And because the air foils are offset from the body, they allow for some trick accessory lighting options which highlight the unique aesthetics even further.
This is our test vehicle sporting Lumenar Airfoils with integrated headlamps & turn signal / marker lamps. While performance may vary depending on the baseline vehicle, this coach went from averaging 8.8 MPG to 10 MPG on our test route at 55 MPH – that’s a more than a 13% improvement!
Currently, the Lumenar™ Airfoil design is in the concept stage & Creative Worx™ is looking to develop these innovative designs for the applications below. While certain critical geometry must be maintained, some design flexibility is possible to achieve a particular look or style.
